tonight,istandbeforeyoutoreportthatamericahascreatedthelongestpeacetimeeconomicexpaioninourhistory.withnearly18millionnewjo,wagesrisingatmorethantwicetherateofinflation,thehighesthomeownershipinhistory,thesmallestwelfarerolesin30years,andthelowestpeacetimeunemploymentsince1957.

forthefirsttimeinthreedecades,thebudgetisbalanced.fromadeficitof$290billionin1992,wehadasurplusof$70billionlastyear.andnow,weareoncourseforbudgetsurplusesforthenext25years.

thankstothepioneeringleadershipofallofyou,wehavethelowestviolentcrimerateinaquartercenturyandthecleanestenvironmentinaquartercentury.
